There are few things more classic than a rustic, country style wedding. Our custom made canvas marquees are built to the highest modern standards whilst maintaining their traditional style. With tall wooden centre poles and hessian guy ropes, they add a striking focal point to your wedding venue.

Due to the classic style of these marquees, they lend themselves perfectly to creating an intimate, country style wedding. We like to use a soft ivory interior lining coupled with a selection of hand-picked vintage wedding decorations to create this look. In this article, we’ve put together some of our favourite industry secrets for creating the perfect rustic country wedding day.

The Seating Plan

You’ll need to decide whether you’re going for a vintage country look, or something a little more rustic.

Outdoor receptions work well for DIY type weddings. For a real country feel, hold your ho-down next to the barn (or inside it!) using simple wooden tables with plain clothes and wooden chairs. We can provide everything you need to transform your barn into your ideal venue.

Traditional picnic benches add a touch of nostalgia and look super sweet adorned with centrepieces of wildflowers. Leave them natural, up-cycle in pastel shades or turn on the charm with a polka-dot tablecloth.
Whiskey barrels can be a real feature and are so versatile. Use them as side tables, extra perches or plant them with gorgeous flower displays.

Hay bales offer fun, low-cost seating to surround a barn-dance style dancefloor.

The Spread

If you want to throw a show-stopping wedding reception, don’t forget to reflect the theme in your menu.

Hark back to a traditional country fete with a farmhouse table full of sumptuous fruit tarts, fresh berries with cream, a rustic cheese board and a classic sponge cake with jam filling.

Create a bake-sale style dessert table using overturned apple crates as cake stands. Offer up a selection of your favourite cakes, tray bakes and cupcakes each with their own hand-written signage.

Swap a wedding cake for a traditional apple pie or rhubarb crumble that will delight your guests’ sentimental side as much as their taste buds! Adorn with vintage wedding decorations for an authentic display.

The Mood Lighting

Want to create that inviting, homely glow?

Make your own fairy lights by stringing together then placing tea-lights in old jam jars for a little extra home-spun charm.

Fairy lights give a soft, warm light for an intimate, relaxed setting.

Worried you might light up more than the eyes of your guests? LED candles look just as good as the real thing and are less of a fire hazard – handy with all that hessian and burlap you’ve got around!

The Centrepieces

These say so much about your wedding day. Putting a little thought into a unique centrepiece will make your guests feel special and your day as a whole even more personal.

Compliment vintage wedding decorations by filling large mason jars with your favourite old sweeties. You can have a mix or assign a different sweet treat to every table, for a charming way to organise your seating plan.

Wildflowers work perfectly for this theme. Gather a selection of local blossoms for the bridal bouquet and echo this in your centrepieces with flowers set in terracotta pots, glass jars or wooden window boxes. Garlands of sweet smelling local flowers make the perfect rustic, vintage wedding decorations when draped outside your marquee or around your reception area. Fruit baskets make colourful and delicious centrepieces. Use traditional wicker baskets and fill with locally sourced fruits.

The great thing about a rustic, country wedding is that you don’t have to spend a fortune on vintage wedding decorations. You can pick up unique furniture pieces at your local auction and make them a stunning feature. You can use almost anything and mismatching items will only add to the charm.

Keep your eye on local vintage shops and online retailers for one-off accessories. Still to say yes to the dress? You might just find a diamond in the rough…
